I have recently invested in some amazing new jewellery kit which allows me to recycle and remodel old precious metal jewellery…how exciting! I can now melt, mould and mill old precious metals into sheet/wire from which I can make lovely new jewellery.
The example above shows the first piece I have made using this process in gold. This example combines together a customer’s grandfather’s rings into a new wedding ring. This piece is approx. 5mm in width and has a matt finish on the outside.
The cost for remodelling will vary but if you are looking to have simple style wedding ring band made from your own precious metal (and you can provide enough old metal for the remodel) the cost will be approx. £200 for the transformation. This price will include…
-A consultation (this can be over the phone or you can arrange to meet me in my studio in Redruth Cornwall) to discus your preferences
-A design & sketches (if required)
- Silver prototype if requested/applicable. This can be posted to you to try on but should be returned.
-A plastic ring sizer and the postage to you (so you can acquire your ring size at home)
- Hallmarking of your item.
(The cost will cover the price of Insured postage to and from the London Assay Office and the hallmarking fees. In the assay office they will test to ensure the legitimacy and fineness of your metal. Your piece will be stamped on the inside of the shank with a traditional uk hallmark. This will include a letter stamp to denote the year, a symbol/number to reflect the precious metal/ fineness of the metal, a lions head to symbolise the location of the hall and ‘JMB’, which is my unique makers mark.)
-A Luxury Jasmine Bowden jewellery Gift Box
-Gift wrapping (if requested)
-Insured postage to your UK address (via Royal Mail’s Special Delivery service)
-Emailed photographs of your piece getting made
-All labour involved in transforming your metal
Please note:
-If you want to add stones or extra gold /details into your design this may be possible at an extra cost.
-The timescale for a remodel will usually be 3-4 weeks
-Bare in mind you may need more metal than you think try to gather as much old metal as you can source! If you have slim/light weight rings you may need several of them to melt and remodel into a ring of decent thickness. Some metal will naturally be ‘lost’ during the process due to filing and the neatening up of rough edges during the process.
This can be a great way of recycling something unworn into something contemporary and cherished. It is a great way of breathing a new lease of life into sentimental pieces that aren’t your style. Or even a way of finally finding a use for that old odd gold earring and broken gold chain.
