RING SIZING

The most accurate and recommended way to measure your ring size is to get your finger measured by a jeweller. You can arrange an appointment with me or visit a local jeweller for this. I work with the UK ring size scale but different countries and companies use various different scales so bare this in mind.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR RING SIZE AT HOME

If you can not make it into a jewellers, the best way to find out your size is to find a ring that fits you (make sure it is completely round and a similar width to the one you are buying). Then measure the inside diameter of the ring as accurately as possible and compare to the chart below to find your ring size. Try to be as accurate as possible as small changes in the diameter can make a big difference to the size.

Alternatively you can tie a piece of thread around your finger and mark the point where it overlaps. Measuring this length will tell you your fingers’ circumference, which again, you can use to convert into a UK ring size using the chart below. Make sure this length of string fits snugly around your finger but moves over your knuckle comfortably.

As demonstrated by the highlighted sections above and based on the wedding ring finger (in the UK this is the fourth finger on the left hand) here are some popular sizes…

Women’s common sizes = J - Q

Women’s extra popular = L - M

Women’s most popular = M

Men’s common sizes = P - Z

Men’s extra popular = R = U

Men’s most popular = T

Remember there is no ‘normal ring size’; I can make rings in any size including sizes smaller than size F or bigger than size Z.

Also, although not recommended, if you are hazarding a guess at someones size I have also added a XXS - XXL size scale for both men and women’s rings to aid your decision. These are based on wedding ring finger sizes (left hand, fourth finger in UK). If you are looking for the right hand you may want to go up a size or if you are looking for a third finger, thumb etc you will also need to size up.

FACTORS THAT AFFECT YOUR RING SIZE

If you have a ring that fits then bring this with you to be measured. Remember it needs to fit the correct finger on the correct hand. The fingers on your dominant hand will usually be about a size larger than the fingers on your less dominant hand. For example the fourth finger on my right hand is a size UK M but on my left hand my fourth finger measures a size smaller, a UK size L.

Take care to consider that temperature, exercise, the time of day or year, weight gain or loss and your pregnancy status can all effect your ring size. You may be half a size bigger if your hands are hot or half a size smaller if your hands are cold..or more!

A wider ring will feel tighter in the same size as a finer ring so it is recommended that you go up at least a size with wider rings.

The wider the ring the bigger the size will need to be to be comfortable. For example all these rings fit the same finger but they are all different sizes…

(Fine) 2mm wide band = size M

(Regular) 3mm wide band = size N (+1 size from fine ring size)

(Wide) 6mm wide band = size O (+2 sizes from fine ring size)

(Super Wide) 14mm wide band = size Q (+3 sizes from fine ring size)

This example might help if you have measured your size based on a fine ring but you are ordering a wide ring. Obviously it depends on the person but as a rough guide, based on the example above you may want to go up 1 or 2 sizes.

WHAT IF I GET MY RING SIZE WRONG?

If the ring you have commissioned doesn’t feature any gemstones, re-sizing is usually a fairly easy job. Generally I will be able to offer complimentary re-size on all my silver rings.

If the ring size is being made larger in some cases I may have to charge to cover the cost of the extra materials.

If your ring features gemstones I should be able to re-size it but this will depend on the gemstone you have chosen. I can discuss the possibility and risks that may be involved in re-sizing on a case by case bases.

It is important to note that some rings can not be re-sized safely. Re-sizing rings with inset gemstones on the shank (for example eternity rings) can lead to displacing and reducing the security of the stones. If you are unsure or unconfident of the size you require it is best to let me know and to choose a design appropriate for re-sizing.

BRACELET SIZING

If you are ordering a bracelet the best way to get the right size for you is to measure the tight circumference of your wrist at it’s widest point with a piece of string or thread. I can then work out what length the bracelet should be.

I have also made this handy chart below for you to cross-reference your measurements. Bracelets for women will often measure between 6.5-7.5 inches with 7 inches being the average.

Bracelets for men will often measure between 7.5 - 9 inches with 8 inches being the average.

BANGLE SIZING

The easiest way to order the right size bangle for you is to find a bangle that already fits and measure it’s inside diameter (as demonstrated below). Please note: I can make a bangle any size; the size estimates represent popular sizes but if you require a bangle larger or smaller or anywhere in-between I will be happy to accommodate!

NECKLACE LENGTHS

Most of my necklaces can be made to various different lengths. See the image below to help you determine your preferred length. Please note that for some, a 16” chain may not fit and for others it may sit a little lower on the body, it just depends on your shape and size.
